Important safety information
- Nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, constipation and reduced appetite are common, mostly as the dose increases.
- Brand tirzepatide carries a boxed warning about thyroid C-cell tumors seen in rodents. Do not use it if you or your family have had medullary thyroid cancer or MEN 2.
- Get care right away for severe ongoing stomach pain, gallbladder symptoms, signs of dehydration or an allergic reaction.
- Tirzepatide can make birth control pills less effective after starting and after each dose increase. Ask your provider about a backup method.
- Brand tirzepatide (Zepbound, Mounjaro) is FDA-approved. The FDA ended the tirzepatide shortage in December 2024 and has raised concerns about compounded versions.
- Compounded medications are prepared by a licensed US pharmacy for an individual patient. They are not FDA-approved, and the FDA does not verify their safety, effectiveness or quality before they are dispensed.
Prescription only. A licensed provider reviews your health history in an online visit and decides whether this program is appropriate for you. Tell your provider about every medication, supplement, allergy and condition, and whether you are pregnant, trying to conceive or breastfeeding. If you have a severe reaction, trouble breathing, chest pain or swelling of the face or throat, call 911.
Full details: safety information. Updated October 28, 2026.
Is compounded tirzepatide the same as Zepbound or Mounjaro?
No. Zepbound and Mounjaro are FDA-approved brand tirzepatide products. Compounded tirzepatide is prepared by a licensed pharmacy, often with B12 or glycine, and is not FDA-approved. Your provider decides which option is appropriate.
Is tirzepatide stronger than semaglutide?
Tirzepatide acts on two hormone pathways (GIP and GLP-1), while semaglutide acts on one (GLP-1). Some studies show more average weight loss with tirzepatide, but individual results vary. Your provider decides which medication fits your health history and goals.
How much does tirzepatide cost per month?
The RULE Longevity Tirzepatide Weight Program starts at $299 per month, with shipping included. Higher-dose price tiers are still being set, and your provider sets your dose.
Who qualifies for tirzepatide?
Your provider decides based on your weight, health history, current medications and goals. Tirzepatide is generally not appropriate for people with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid cancer or MEN 2, or who are pregnant. Complete the online visit to find out whether it is right for you.
Can I switch from semaglutide to tirzepatide?
Yes, a switch is possible if your provider decides it is appropriate. Tell your provider what you take now, how long you have taken it and any side effects, and they will set your new dose. Do not switch or combine medications on your own.
